- Reporter Leslie Ackerson was by herself to do an 11:00 a.m. report from a neighborhood near the fires. She talked about how bad the air quality was and how the little kids had to stay inside during recess. At first, it was a small fire and people didn’t know the fire could be a problem. It was still far away. The wind, dust, and leaves created hazy darkness by late afternoon.
