Description
Karen Hughes, UT Professor of Population Biology, was involved in observation and research of the post-fire Smoky Mountain plant life, including the table mountain pine trees, which are unique to the Appalachian Mountains. “All the trees were blackened but those that still stood, and had a little bit of needles on top, we saw that the pine cones had opened and dropped their seeds.”
